Illuminating the World's Largest Factory, Boeing

GigaTera's Light Shines on the Heart of the Aviation Industry

This project is a premier global industrial lighting project that proved its world-class technology and reliability, in which the aging lighting at the Everett Factory—a key production base for the world's largest aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, and the largest building in the world by volume—was completely replaced with GigaTera's state-of-the-art LED high-bay lights after Boeing initiated a bidding process in 2015 and conducted years of rigorous technical verification.

The Boeing Everett Factory, where giant aircraft that fly the world's skies, such as the Boeing 747, 777, and 787 Dreamliner, are born. In this place, wider than 75 football fields combined and with a staggering height of over 30 meters, high-precision work assembling the millions of parts that go into a single aircraft, where not a single error is tolerated, is carried out 24/7.

In such an environment, lighting is more than just brightness; it is the most critical infrastructure directly linked to worker safety and productivity. However, the previously used 1000W class metal halide lighting had chronic problems of severe lumen depreciation, color distortion due to low Color Rendering (CRI), and enormous maintenance costs from frequent failures. In particular, the inefficiency of replacing a single lamp on the 30-meter-high ceiling, which cost thousands of dollars and significant time, was a challenge that urgently needed to be addressed.

To solve this world-class challenge, Boeing conducted the most rigorous and demanding on-site tests over several years with the world's leading lighting companies. Ultimately, GigaTera's 'SEGA-HP' series high-bay light, which proved its superior performance, durability, and long-term reliability, was selected as the final solution. GigaTera's lighting dramatically improved the precision of work by enabling the clear distinction of colors of countless wires and components through its high Color Rendering (High CRI), close to natural daylight, and its special thermal design ensures stable performance even in the harsh environment of the 24-hour factory.

The success of this project is clearly proven by overwhelming data and results. GigaTera's lighting system achieved an innovative energy saving of over 70% and a reduction in maintenance costs of over 80% compared to the previous system. Most importantly, it directly contributed to securing worker safety and maximizing productivity by significantly increasing the average illuminance of the workspace and minimizing glare.

This project is the most powerful case proving that GigaTera's technology perfectly met the most stringent standards required by the world's top aerospace company. This is an important milestone that shows GigaTera is a trusted partner that provides the best solutions even in the most demanding mission-critical environments.
