The Choice of the World's Largest Shipping Group, APM Terminals Barcelona

Mastering the Mediterranean Night with GigaTera's Light

This project is a premier global top-tier client project in which the aging lighting at APM Terminals Barcelona, a subsidiary of the world's largest shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk and a global port operator, was completely replaced with GigaTera's high-efficiency LED lighting system in 2018.

As a key logistics hub in the Mediterranean, APM Terminals Barcelona faced a serious inefficiency problem with its previously used 1000W class metal halide and high-pressure sodium lighting. With an average illuminance of only 20 lux, it was difficult to ensure the safety of nighttime operations, and excessive energy consumption and high maintenance costs were a significant burden hindering the terminal's sustainable growth.

In its pursuit of the world's highest safety and efficiency standards, APM Terminals, after a rigorous technical verification process, selected GigaTera's high-output 'SUFA-A' 400W model LED lighting as its final solution. With just a simple 1-to-1 replacement of the existing 1000W class lighting with 400W LED lights, it achieved the remarkable result of dramatically reducing energy consumption while more than doubling the average illuminance of the entire port.

The successful outcome of the project was most clearly validated by an official evaluation from the on-site manager. Narcís Pavón, Head of the Maintenance Department at APM Terminals Barcelona, stated, "We are very satisfied with the results of this project," and lauded the direct achievements, saying, "Not only did we reduce energy consumption by 63%, but we also significantly improved the safety of our workers by doubling the average illuminance from 20 lux to 40 lux."

This project is deeply significant in that GigaTera's innovative technology perfectly met the demanding standards of the world's largest shipping group and received official recognition from a global top-tier client. This is a powerful case that proves GigaTera's lighting is the best choice for the safety and efficiency of all ports worldwide.
