Illuminating Innovation with GigaTera's Smart Lighting
- This project is a premier case study of a global smart port implementation, where the existing 2,000W metal halide lighting at the Port of Yarimca, one of Türkiye's largest container terminals operated by the global port operator DP World, was completely replaced in 2021 with GigaTera's high-efficiency SUFA series LED sports lighting and wireless control system.
As a global logistics leader, DP World Yarimca faced the significant challenge of increasing energy efficiency and reducing maintenance costs—key elements of port operations—for sustainable growth. The existing 2,000W metal halide lighting was increasing the burden of operational costs due to excessive power consumption and a short lifespan, and an intelligent lighting solution was needed that could maximize operational efficiency while meeting the safety standards of a 24-hour port.
In response to these customer needs, GigaTera proposed 168 units of its 'SUFA' 840W model LED sports light, which incorporates world-class technology, along with an intelligent wireless lighting control system, as the optimal solution. GigaTera's system was designed to go beyond simply providing light; it enables the remote control of each light individually or in groups through a central control system, allows for brightness adjustment (dimming) according to the usage environment, and facilitates automatic on/off scheduling. This fundamentally eliminated energy waste by precisely supplying the necessary amount of light only where it was needed.
The successful outcome of the project is most clearly proven by the official feedback from the DP World Yarimca Technical Department. Özer Öz, Technical Department Manager at the Port of Yarimca, stated, "After replacing the lighting system with GigaTera's LED system, we achieved an energy saving of more than 60%, while at the same time perfectly meeting the average 30 lux illuminance standard required for port operations." He continued, "GigaTera's wireless lighting control system allowed us to efficiently manage the lighting according to our desired scenarios. We are very satisfied with the results and the support from the GigaTera team," showing high confidence in both the technology and the service.
In this way, GigaTera played a key role in helping the DP World Yarimca port take a leap forward as a smart, sustainable, and eco-friendly port, and this has become an important milestone proving that GigaTera's technology is a global standard.
