GigaTera's Light Illuminates the Future
- This project is South Korea's largest-scale port lighting modernization project, where the existing lighting at the key piers of Busan New Port International Terminal (BNCT, HPNT, HJNC, and PNIT)—a port poised to become a logistics hub for Northeast Asia—was completely replaced with GigaTera's next-generation smart LED lighting system from July 2022 to January 2023.
GigaTera deeply understood the status of Busan New Port as a national security facility and the unique nature of its 24/7, non-stop operations. The existing metal halide lighting had limitations in securing nighttime operational safety and productivity due to low energy efficiency and insufficient illuminance. Therefore, GigaTera set the goal of providing customized solutions optimized for each pier by precisely analyzing the different structures and requirements of each terminal.
GigaTera's high-efficiency LED floodlights (MAH series) replaced the existing 1000W class lighting with 600W/800W class models, while dramatically increasing the average illuminance by up to 335% (at PNIT). Notably, by applying its proprietary cloud-based lighting control system (GeSS Cloud) to the BNCT terminal, it achieved energy savings of up to 55% through dimming control tailored to the characteristics of each work area. For the other terminals, high energy saving rates of 38% at HPNT and 39% at HJNC were recorded even without the use of dimming functions, proving the superiority of the technology.
These data-proven, overwhelming improvements in illuminance and energy efficiency directly contribute to preventing potential safety accidents by clearly securing the vision of nighttime workers and enhancing the productivity of the 24-hour port. This project is an innovative case that has changed the paradigm of night operations at South Korea's flagship port, and GigaTera's technology is brightly illuminating the path for Busan New Port to become a global logistics hub.
