Strolling Through a Thousand-Year Night with the Safest, Most Comfortable Light

GigaTera's Light, Considerate of Both History and People

This project is a premier smart tourism lighting solution in which an innovative solution - installing a combination of GigaTera's high-performance SUFA and MAHA LED lights on high masts - was applied at Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond in Gyeongju, South Korea's premier historical tourist destination, to perfectly ensure the safety and convenience of the countless visitors who come to experience the thousand-year nights of Silla.

Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, the site of a detached palace of the Silla Kingdom and boasting one of the most beautiful nightscapes in South Korea, is like the heart of Gyeongju, visited by countless tourists every night. The biggest challenge for this historic space was to perfectly ensure the safety of all visitors using the vast parking lot and complex walkways, without disturbing the tranquil atmosphere. In particular, the parking lot and walkways had completely different requirements for the scope and nature of the light, demanding a highly customized design.

To solve this complex challenge, GigaTera proposed a 'hybrid solution' that combines two types of lights with different characteristics on a single high-mast pole. It installed the 'SUFA' series, with its powerful directivity, for the vast parking lot area that requires light to be sent over a long distance, and the 'MAHA' series, with its excellent diffusion, for the walkway and plaza areas that need to be gently illuminated over a wide area. This was the smartest and most economical method to achieve maximum efficiency with a minimum number of light towers.

After the project's completion, the nighttime environment of Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond was reborn as a perfect space where all visitors can enjoy the historical ambiance with peace of mind. The powerful light from the SUFA clearly illuminates even the edges of the parking lot, preventing safety accidents and crime, while the soft light from the MAHA comfortably guides the visitors' paths. This is the most successful case that demonstrates GigaTera's technological philosophy of respecting the value of a historic space while prioritizing the safety and convenience of its visitors.
