GigaTera's Light, Achieving the Most Ideal Harmony of Water and Light
- This project is a premier indoor sports lighting solution where GigaTera's high-performance MAHA LED floodlight was applied to the main swimming pool of 'Røykenbadet,' Norway's newest multi-purpose wellness center, to perfectly control glare caused by light reflection on the water's surface and to create a superior, international-competition-level lighting environment.
As a state-of-the-art facility responsible for the health and leisure of local residents, the Røykenbadet swimming pool was faced with the challenge of providing the safest and most pleasant environment for all users. In particular, the biggest technical challenge for an indoor swimming pool was the glare caused by light reflection on the water's surface. This was a critically important issue that not only caused discomfort for general users enjoying a swim but also directly affected the performance and safety of athletes.
To solve this problem, GigaTera proposed its MAHA lighting, which incorporates precision optical control technology, as the optimal solution. Utilizing the key technology of the MAHA—its asymmetrical distribution and glare-suppression design—the concept was to position the light source to face the ceiling and then illuminate the interior using the reflected light, fundamentally preventing light originating from the source from directly reflecting off the water's surface into the users' eyes. This is the most advanced method for providing the most pleasant and comfortable line of sight, while also gently and uniformly illuminating the entire required swimming pool area.
After the project's completion, the Røykenbadet swimming pool was perfectly reborn with a superior lighting environment that satisfies all its users. The glare-free, pleasant light maximized user satisfaction, and the bright, uniform illuminance, suitable for hosting international competitions, elevated the facility's prestige to the next level. Furthermore, by achieving significant energy savings compared to conventional methods through high-efficiency LED lighting, it is regarded as a premier success story that further enhances the value of a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly building.
