GigaTera's Light, Proving its Trustworthiness with International Standards

This project is a premier overseas infrastructure lighting solution in which GigaTera's high-efficiency META LED roadway light was applied in 2016 to the LEKAS Expressway (Kajang-Seremban Highway), a key transportation network in southern Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to maximize driver safety and operational efficiency through data-proven, overwhelming energy efficiency and light quality improvements.

The LEKAS Expressway, which connects Kuala Lumpur and Seremban, is a key infrastructure that plays an important role in decentralizing traffic in the metropolitan area. The expressway operator was faced with the challenge of solving the serious energy waste and frequent maintenance issues caused by the previously installed 250W class high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps, and of providing the safest and most pleasant nighttime driving environment for all drivers.

To solve this national challenge, GigaTera proposed its high-efficiency META LED lighting, optimized for roadway environments, as the solution. It focused on maximizing light quality while dramatically lowering power consumption by replacing the existing 250W HPS lamps with 120W high-efficiency META lights.

Clear data measured after the project's completion perfectly validates the success of GigaTera's solution. After the lighting replacement, power consumption was reduced by 52%, and the average illuminance was improved by 48%. Furthermore, the overall uniformity, which indicates the evenness of light on the road, was significantly improved from 0.32 to 0.51. This means that an environment has been created where drivers can drive much more safely with the light evenly distributed and without dark, shadowy areas on the road, and it has been recorded as a premier success story that enhanced the value of a key national infrastructure.
