The Nation's Artery, Running with the Safest Light

GigaTera's Light, Proving its Trustworthiness with International Standards

This project is a premier overseas infrastructure lighting solution in which GigaTera's high-performance MAHA high-mast lighting was applied in 2015 to the Penang section of the PLUS Expressway (North-South Expressway), Malaysia's largest expressway, to perfectly meet the standards of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and to elevate the safety and efficiency of this national artery to the next level.

The PLUS Expressway, which runs the length of the Malaysian peninsula, is a key infrastructure, like the main artery of the national economy. The expressway operator, PLUS, was faced with the challenge of solving the serious energy waste and frequent maintenance issues caused by its old, existing 1000W class high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps. Above all, the project's top priority was to meet the roadway lighting standards of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) to provide the safest and most pleasant nighttime driving environment for all drivers.

To solve this national challenge, GigaTera proposed its high-performance MAHA LED lighting, optimized for high-mast environments, as the solution. It focused on raising the light quality to above international standards while dramatically lowering power consumption by replacing the existing 1000W HPS lamps with 400W high-efficiency MAHA lights. This was a strategic choice that went beyond a simple lighting replacement to secure both the safety and sustainability of the national infrastructure.

The project's overwhelming success was clearly validated by an official evaluation from the expressway operator's director. Wan Hairul, the Head of Lighting Engineering at PLUS, began by saying, "GigaTera's LED lighting was the exact solution we were looking for," and offered the highest praise, "It not only greatly reduced our energy consumption but also provides excellent lighting quality that meets international standards. We are very satisfied with this result." In fact, after the lighting replacement, power consumption was significantly reduced by over 60%, and the bright, uniform light that perfectly meets CIE standards has been recorded as a premier success story that provides superior safety for all drivers.
