GigaTera's Light, Proving the Difference in Technology with Data
- This project is a premier roadway lighting solution in which GigaTera's META roadway light and MAHA high-mast light were applied together to the 19.6km NPE (New Pantai Expressway), a key transportation artery in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, to dramatically improve driver safety and energy efficiency and to elevate the standard for key national infrastructure.
The NPE Expressway, constructed to alleviate traffic congestion in the southern part of the capital, Kuala Lumpur, is a key national infrastructure used by countless vehicles 24 hours a day. In replacing the old, existing 450W class high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps, the ordering authority demanded not just energy savings, but a dramatic improvement in illuminance levels to provide the most pleasant driving environment for drivers. This was a critically important challenge directly linked to the safety of nighttime drivers.
To meet the high requirements of the ordering authority, GigaTera proposed an optimal, customized design based on precise on-site analysis. It applied a 'hybrid solution,' installing the META 150W on 12-meter-high poles for the general driving sections (3 lanes/median strip), and combining it with the MAHA 400W on 30-meter-high masts for the complexly structured toll plaza and interchange sections.
The overwhelming data measured after the project's completion clearly proves how GigaTera's technology can transform a site. The illuminance improvement rate at the toll plaza section reached up to 85%, and by providing uniform and bright light across all lanes of the expressway, it created a superior driving environment. Furthermore, it reduced energy consumption by a remarkable 60% or more, saving the national budget and establishing a sustainable road environment. An official from the NPE Expressway expressed the highest satisfaction with these results, stating, "GigaTera's LED lighting provides much better visibility for drivers, which greatly contributes to nighttime traffic safety."
