Sports & Entertainment Lighting Excellence

What is the LIT Lighting Design Awards?

The LIT Lighting Design Awards™ was established to acknowledge the exceptional work of talented lighting product designers and implementers worldwide. We firmly believe that lighting encompasses artistic expression and scientific principles, making it a vital component of any design.
The LIT Awards were created as a platform to recognize and celebrate achievements in lighting products, architectural lighting designs, and entertainment lighting.

After a multi-round of votes, the jury members select the winners in professional and student categories. The judges evaluate each project based on their own merit; rewarding the most pioneering and ground-breaking lighting designs and selecting those standing out. The winners serve as a testament to their unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of design, presenting innovative solutions, and embracing sustainability practices with passion.

WINNER

Trabzonspor Stadium

Other Entertainment Lighting Project

Entry Description
Papara Park in Trabzon, Türkiye, was reimagined from a traditional sports facility into a full-scale entertainment venue capable of expressing the identity of Trabzonspor through light. The existing HID system delivered static illumination, with heavy fixtures that strained the catwalk structures and created uneven broadcast lighting and shadow zones that affected broadcast clarity. With limited structural capacity on catwalks, increasing light performance without reinforcing supports was a core design constraint. A system redesign required a delicate solution that balanced lightweight engineering with visual drama.

The new entertainment lighting design deploys 264 SUFA-P 1.35kW LED luminaires, selected for low wind load and high-output performance, enabling direct installation on the existing steel racks without altering the stadium architecture. The design achieves FIFA Standard A lighting with average horizontal illuminance over 3000 lux and exceptional vertical lighting for broadcast. Color-blending RGBW entertainment fixtures were integrated into the same system, allowing Papara Park to bask in the signature claret and blue tones of Trabzonspor Kulübü. The lighting design enhances both match visibility and atmosphere by activating dynamic show sequences, ceremonies, and crowd engagement moments from a unified control interface.
Sustainability Approach
The Papara Park lighting upgrade prioritized structural reuse and carbon reduction by retaining the existing catwalk system rather than replacing it. By switching from 792kW of HID load to 356kW of LED, the design reduced installed energy and carbon emissions by more than 50% yet doubling light performance. Each SUFA-P sportslight fixture weighed just 12.3kg and decreased wind-load by 35% across the lighting system, reducing both material use and transport emissions across the entire project cycle. The compact luminaire form allowed seamless integration onto the existing steel infrastructure, eliminating additional materials fabrication and preserving the architectural lines of the stadium. Controlled beam and Inner Visor technology minimized spill light and glare, protecting surrounding urban areas and lowering light pollution impact on night skies and nearby residents.

HONORABLE MENTION

SUFA-PTX™ Floodlight

Product Design : Floodlights

Entry Description
The SUFA-P Floodlight is an ultra-lightweight high-output LED luminaire designed for demanding floodlighting applications across large-scale facilities such as stadiums, ports, and terminal infrastructure.

Engineered with a modular architecture scalable from 600W to 1500W, the platform can be tuned precisely to match performance requirements across diverse installation environments. Its proprietary finless cooling system maintains high thermal stability while preserving a clean industrial housing and compact body.

As the lightest luminaire of its performance class with a significantly reduced EPA, it enables retrofit installation on existing structures without reinforcement. This refined form improves longevity, simplifies maintenance, and reflects focus on structural excellence and engineering innovation. The 1.5kW configuration was recognized by the Illumination Engineering Society in the 2025 IES Progress Report as a significant contribution to the lighting industry.

Optically, SUFA-P features precision symmetric or asymmetric beams with integrated Inner Visor that delivers controlled light distribution, maximizing useful illumination while minimizing glare, spill, and light pollution into surrounding areas and sky. SUFA-P combines performance, environmental intent, and robust engineering in a ultra-compact form.
Sustainability Approach
The SUFA-P Floodlight weighs 45 to 70% lighter than comparable high-output sports luminaires, lowering carbon footprint across the entire project cycle from manufacture-level materials to transportation emissions.

A modular heat sink architecture replaces traditional cast-aluminum bodies, reducing material mass while maintaining thermal stability and prolonging LED lifespan to minimize replacement cycles and waste. Its 55% lower frontal EPA reduces wind load, allowing reuse of existing poles, eliminating additional steel reinforcement significantly cutting embodied carbon and installation impact in a circular retrofit.

With symmetric/asymmetric optics and integrated visor control, SUFA-P directs light only where needed, reducing spill, skyglow, and energy waste, supporting both carbon reduction goals and dark-sky ecological responsibility.

WINNER

SFP-RTS™ Sports Lighting System

Product Design : Sports Lighting System

Entry Description
The SFP-RTS™ Sports Lighting System unifies professional match lighting and entertainment effects in a single sports lighting platform. Conventional stadiums rely on fixed floodlights for play and temporary truss systems for show lighting, increasing structural load and operational complexity. RTS™ eliminates this divide by integrating high-output white light, RGBW effects, and motorized tilt-steer mechanics within compact IP-66 rated luminaire housing and an industry-first moving bracket.

Through pre-programmed aiming presets, fixtures can be repositioned at the touch of a control command, allowing the venue to shift between lighting modes optimized to sport-specific lighting regulations. This adaptive aiming control maintains uniformity and target illumination levels while conforming to the distinct lighting zones required for different event formats in a single location.

The system delivers UEFA and FIFA-grade performance when in match mode, then transitions instantly into entertainment sequences with dynamic movement, color, and synchronized show effects triggered through the same control network. By embedding motion and entertainment capability directly into the sports lighting infrastructure, SFP-RTS™ enables a multi-identity venue without additional rigs, rental systems, or structural reinforcement.
Sustainability Approach
By integrating color lighting into the primary sports lighting platform, the SFP-RTS™ system removes the need for temporary rigs and rental truss lighting, cutting transport and setup emissions. The system boasts lightweight fixtures that embody a modular, reduced-material body.

At Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, and Borussia-Park stadium in Mönchengladbach, Germany, SFP-RTS™ sports lighting deployment prevented more than 30% use of auxiliary structure, reducing installation waste.

At Papara Park in Türkiye, existing catwalk structures were reused in a circular upgrade and adaptive beam presets reduced non-competition energy use by limiting illumination to active zones only.

Consolidating two lighting systems into one platform maximizes infrastructure efficiency and extends venue utility with lower carbon overhead.
